Overbey, Hawkins, Wright & Vance’s History

Our firm has a rich and proud history dating back to 1930 when R.I. Overbey began practicing law in Rustburg and 1931 when W. Hutchings “Hutch” Overbey, Sr. joined him.

“Hutch” Overbey was Judge of the Campbell County Court for many years during a time when judges also practiced law. The firm was well-known as Overbey & Overbey. Later joined by his son, W. Hutchings “Buzzy” Overbey, Jr., the firm was recognized as one of the prominent law firms in the greater Lynchburg, VA area as our attorneys fought zealously for our clients.

After David Hawkins joined the firm in 1972 and later became partner, the firm became known as Overbey, Overbey & Hawkins. W. Hutchings Overbey, Sr. retired from the Circuit Court bench for Campbell County and Bryan Selz joined the firm. The firm became known as Overbey, Hawkins & Selz. Frank A. Wright, Jr. joined the firm in 1997 and later became a partner after graduating with honors from Harvard University and the University of Virginia School of Law. The firm became known as Overbey, Hawkins & Wright. Samuel F. Vance, IV joined the firm as a partner in 2011. Rebecca M. Marstin joined the firm in 2018. The firm is presently known as Overbey, Hawkins, Wright & Vance.

During these years, the firm grew and developed a reputation for competent, diligent and zealous representation of our clients and it is this reputation that our attorneys strive to fulfill. Today, Overbey, Hawkins, Wright & Vance consists of four lawyers: A. David Hawkins, Frank A. Wright, Jr., Samuel F. Vance, IV, and Rebecca M. Marstin.
